Cougars Dominate MACHA Awards

March 6th, 2010 - The MACHA Conference Award winners were announced at the MACHA League Meeting in Peoria, IL, and SIUE was well represented. Goaltender Brandon Becker and Defenseman Adam Gernigin took home Player of the Year Honors at their respective positions. 4 players were named to the All-MACHA 1st team: Becker, Defender's Gernigin and John Wright (11 GP, 8 G, 11 A, 19 Pts), and Cougar Captain Forward Mike Dolan (26GP, 21 G, 24 A, 45 Pts).

Adam Gernigin racked up 6 Goals, 17 Assists for 23 points in 26 games this season, career highs in all 3 categories in 4 years at SIUE. Known league wide for his luscious locks, Gernigin was rewarded not only for his offensive prowess, but for his play-breaking abilities as well.

This marks Goaltender Brandon Becker's 2nd Goaltender of the Year Award as he has won 1 in the Gold Division and 1 in the Silver Division (07-08). He finshed with a 14-4-0-1 record, with 3 Shutouts a 2.81 GAA and a 91% Save Percentage in the regular season, and went 3-0, 2.00 GAA and a 94% Save Percentage en route to the Cougars 5th MACHA Gold League Championship.

Larry Thatcher (Gold Head Coach) and Jason Walker (Silver Head Coach) collected Coach of the Year honors, marking the first time in MACHA history that both Coach of the Year winners have come from the same school.

Thatcher has collected a sterling 171-82-8-2 record in the 10 seasons behind the bench for the Cougars, putting together 5 MACHA Championship teams (1 Silver, 4 Gold). Walker headed the Silver team to its first winning season in its existance, going 10-9-1 Overall, 6-7-1 in MACHA Silver league play.
